When I got pregnant, the last thing in the whole world I thought about was that I was going to have to know how to style a little boy's hair. I just assumed he would be bald for some reason, and I assumed he would be that way for a long time. And then I figured he would have straight freakishly platinum blond hair like his dad. For some genius reason, I didn't think my own hair genes would come into play at all, because he's a boy and I'm girl. Very logical, I know.
Somehow, what popped out was a little nugget that in fact had hair, and it was super dark brown. I didn't once picture my baby with dark hair, so color me shocked. If you know Ty and his family, you know how Scandinavian they are. Super blond. So, this should have been my first clue that this little tot was taking after Mama's side of the family in the hair department.
Soon that dark duck fluff showed up on the sheets in his pram. :( Sad day!
Then he went through an awkward, male pattern baldness stage at 2 months old.
There was a lot of hat wearing during these months.
6 months old, growing in straight and dark blond.
10 months old, blonder and styled by dad.
Then genetics worked some OT, and a few curly whispies reproduced overnight. All of the sudden, I am the proud mother of baby Justin Timberlake, circa 1999.
Or perhaps a little Will Schuester?
Since I can barely style my own hair, I had literally no idea what to do with this little boys. We tried a curl cream to help tame the curls, which does work, but with him being in the pool everyday now and you know, being a baby in general, we just needed a cut.
So the first haircut came way faster than I imagined it would, but this past Friday, it was time. Ty had the day off, so I figured it would be the perfect time for him to actually be able to be there for a "first".
Just a few pics of the epic bed head he woke up with that morning.
While I have attempted a few DIY trims, it was finally time to call in the big guns, who's actually really skinny, in the form of my sister-in-law and personal hair dresser, Kindy.
The Official Before Pic:
"wait, Dad, what're you letting her do??"
Just a few, teensy, tiny, waterworks :/
O with a mullet. Amazeballs.
Tears (of joy???) over thinking he's going to be stuck with a mullet.
All done! He ran to hug Aunt Kindy right after, so cute!
Still a little sad!
Finally feeling like a puppy fresh out of the bath.
Both of my boys looking, um, stunning?? Well, O looks adorable with his new big boy haircut, at least!
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, AUNTIE KINDY!!! We love you!!!
Because I know someone will ask, and for good reason because she's awesome, Kindy works at Hair Attitudes in Escondido. Go to her, you will look just as good as O!
